ER Productions to accelerate growth with BGF funding

The award-winning laser, pyrotechnics and special effects specialist will further expand its global presence with our backing.

4 October 2024

BGF today announces an investment for a minority stake in ER Productions, an award-winning laser production, pyrotechnics and special effects (SFX) specialist.

Founded in 2007, by Marc Webber and Ryan Hagan, ER Productions leads the industry — with its expertise in designing and delivering cutting-edge laser and SFX solutions. The company’s specialism in delivering complex, large-scale SFX shows has made it a long-term partner of choice for some of the world’s most recognised and high-profile events and artists.

Headquartered in Dartford (UK), ER Productions also has a strong international footprint, with offices in the US, Spain, Australia and Saudi Arabia. It’s worked for artists including Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Metallica, MUSE, Pete Tong, Robbie Wiliams, Fatboy Slim, Backstreet Boys, Katy Perry and Swedish House Mafia. The company has also supported large events and festivals, such as Glastonbury, Soundstorm Festival, Eurovision and the London 2012 Olympics.

Co-founders Webber and Hagan are taking on capital investment from BGF to support their growth plans, both organically and via acquisition, to further cement ER Productions’ market leadership. The pair will remain majority shareholders in the business and will continue to lead their team, which is now approaching 110 talented individuals, across its five offices.

“We started the business with the goal of being the best-in-class laser and SFX provider for live events. BGF’s experience in scaling up growth will enable us to take a meaningful step forward in strengthening our commercial capabilities, developing cutting-edge technologies, and expanding the company’s global footprint.”

Post-investment, ER Productions will continue to expand its global presence, with a particular focus on the US, to meet growing demand for its services. This is underpinned by rapid growth in the live entertainment industry, which is forecast to reach $50bn by 2030 — up 33% (according to research by Goldman Sachs). This is being driven by strong consumer appetite for enhanced event experiences, combined with the importance of live ticket sales to artists’ earnings.

ER Productions will also be investing to manufacture its own proprietary equipment, from its dedicated facility in Dartford, to create the most innovative and impressive special effects available to clients across the world.

Chris Morgan, Investor at BGF, said: “ER Productions has earned its reputation as the industry’s foremost laser and SFX provider through its commitment to quality, professionalism and innovation. There is an ever-increasing appetite to wow audiences at in-person events, and ER Productions leads the industry with their creativity and quality of delivery. We are thrilled to support Marc and Ryan, as they continue to lead the company on the next stage of their exciting growth journey.”
