Reactive Technologies has completed a £25 million funding round led by M&G Catalyst, alongside BGF and Breakthrough Energy Ventures. The UK and Finland-based business is a leader in grid stability measurement.
This funding will support Reactive’s international expansion initiatives, key hiring endeavours, and advance the realisation of contracted projects globally.
As renewable energy deployment accelerates across the world, grid operators are grappling with challenges related to grid stability, such as diminishing inertia and system strength. Reactive Technologies addresses these challenges with its pioneering GridMetrix® technology, empowering system operators to monitor power system stability in real time. This capability enables operators to reduce renewable curtailment, prevent blackouts, and optimise spending on balancing services.
BGF has been invested in Reactive Technologies since 2021, having previously led a $15 million fundraise to expand the company’s international activities and export its award-winning technology to countries around the world.
Zahir Kasmani, investor at BGF, commented: “Reactive Technologies has been making great strides towards net zero, and is poised for substantial commercial growth to support its important work in this area. On the back of a successful launch into the US market, with multiple global projects on the horizon, this is an exciting moment for the business, and we are delighted to be continuing our support for this next phase of growth.”
The business was recently recognised as a Clean Power Energy Transition Changemaker at COP28 for its partnership with the UK’s National Grid ESO, for the deployment of the world’s first inertia measurement technology.
Marc Borrett, CEO of Reactive Technologies, said: “This new investment from M&G, alongside our existing backers BGF and Breakthrough Energy Ventures, marks another significant milestone for Reactive Technologies. As we deliver more projects to support the global transition to net zero, this backing will empower us to deliver at scale, expand our commercial presence internationally, innovate further, and help us make a real contribution to a clean energy future.”
